Going Soft and Plush.

I've just created some custom printed fabric with both of the original That Vintage birds illustrations.  I am super excited and a little nervous for this project - it is all currently in my mind and a few little sketches in my notebook, but for the most part, I'll be winging this idea!
I cannot wait to get the fabric and the other bits and pieces, begin playing around and hopefully, fingers crossed, my new idea works and I can share it with you all!

Warmly Captured.

A little while back, I was lucky enough to have a shoot done of my art work by the talented duo Clint & Bethanie.
It was a lovely warm afternoon in the dining room of my home, sipping on wine and cider, nibbling off a little cheese board that I whipped up, talking about our lives and travel, plus having my art work professionally captured in its truest state.
I am so impressed with how the photos look - they are spot on, true to the proportion and composition of the drawings, colours and feelings.  Soft and delicate, sensual even!

I am still holding on to these drawings for a little while longer as I am waiting to hear back about a submission I put in for.  I am keeping my fingers crossed, holding tight on to my lucky charm and putting positive vibes out to the universe!
Even if my submission doesn't get accepted, the experience and result of having these drawings captured by two of my very talented friends, is certainly one that I'll look back upon fondly!

Blast From The Past.

My love for Bec Winnel's work continues to blossom and bloom - following her on Instagram is a delight as she posts regular images of work in progress, completed works and experiments with different artistic things - and of course her cute pooches Olive & Charlie and resident sweet feline Audrey!
Going back through some older folders on the Mac, I came across the illustrations that Bec did for That Vintage based on the photographs by Ebony Bejah of model Brooke Saward.
I thought I would share them again!

When In Need Of A Pick Me Up.

I pick up my pencils and draw.

And it feels so good to release whatever is within, concentrate on something different and see where the pencil leads you. The pencils in the top picture were a birthday gift from my oldest sister - they are not only beautiful to look at but so nice to use!

A Break From The Norm.

At the moment, I have a lot of built up creative energy - sure, I could channel it into some new design pieces for That Vintage (and I will, don't worry!) but today I felt like I needed to do something for me.
Something for my soul.
I was flicking through my (rescued) albums of artwork on my new iMac (R.I.P PC) and was inspired by myself (if that is even possible?!) to revisit a style of illustration that I use to do a lot of - mixed collage and line ink drawing.
And the above - "The Angle of Flora" - is the end result...
Please click on it for a closer look, the middle is not a smooth join because of the collage background and layering of papers... regardless, I am happy with how it has turned out.

And I feel good.
My soul feels good -
I feel like a release has occured!

Pencil and Paper.

Yesterday I felt the need for a couple rest breaks from all of the jewellery orders that had accumulated whilst being away in New Zealand and (the unexpected extended holiday) in Melbourne.
So, with pencil in hand and a sheet of wax light paper, one of my favourite photographs from the shoot with Jesse Hunniford, 20 minutes of sketching ...wella!
At the moment the lovely model Madeline, is in the midst of competing her butt off in the next cycle of Australia's Next Top Model - my fingers and toes are crossed for her!

Feathered Hearts For Japan.

We are all aware of the indescribable heartache that the people of Japan - and the rest of world - have experienced and witnessed with the recent earthquake and tsunami.
In times of need - those who can, do what they can.

The beautiful and talented Kelly Smith, a fellow Tasmanian and the name behind the illustrations from Birdy & Me, has listed her divine Sadako illustration on Etsy, with 50% of proceeds going to the Red Cross Japan Appeal.
I just purchased one and it will make a beautiful birthday gift for my sister...
I hope my sister isn't reading this!
